Portentious Pre Sketchin

Well another potential project on the horizon.
Above snippet of the sketches as I was checking out the existing characters.

Will it go the way of several card games, Tim Ferguson's thing, work Animal Logic, work on Aquaman, and a host of other
things-that-didn't-pan-out?

We'll see.

Bit of flu induced hilarity

Not a good photo of not a good picture.
However , dear void , who will stop me?

Apart from head not being in watercolour space-
there was no planning and no drawing really

Looks like I didn't know what I was doing.... but you know watercolour paper is expensive
so even though I should have paper planed it
I persisted for a bit.
Actually my paper plane of choice is the "White meteorite"- so much more accurate when you want to hit someone.

Watercolour 'Happy accidents' eh?
Welcome to the ED I guess.

Start of a little practice

rock2 from Lachlan Creagh on Vimeo.
Started a little bit more anim practice....just thumbnails
a little idea but only spent an afternoon 3.5hrs really,
sort of ran out of steam toward 'end' so the joke of him dropping the rock in shock on the monsters foot is lost at the moment...just have to spend more time- and fix the timing so it registers/works..
just need a beat while he looks at the monter-then drop the rock
Also the ogrey monster didn't really have a plan/design or construction worked out...just started drawing him in.
Also when he jumps around to look- there's supposed to be a wolf howl or something scary sounding so he think to hurry things up by knocking with the rock.

Anyway...good practice to  get my head in the space.

Alligator baiting

Alligator alert from Lachlan Creagh on Vimeo.

An 'alert' alligator.
I *think* usually alligators like crocodiles kind of keep still when they're annoyed and wait for you to do something stupid then they strike out.
They do thrash around more than this too- but I think there is a "Lying down alert " animation I've started where I'll do this (nearly 90 degree turn as they lash out.)
Hopefully though it looks like it wants to bite while busy doing effectively nothing..

Life drawing at Dust Temple

 Well I made it again....
a lot of people there....
Used my old large chunky pencil thing...didn't really attempt many faces because of that
plus wasn't quite up to it (+male models tend to not hold still/drift and twist- this one did hold still though)- kept wondering if I should have brought my glasses
Still the good thing about a guy as the model is you don't get psyched out by having to make sure pretty girl stays pretty in your drawing,
Mind you I find girls are totally psyched out  when it comes to drawing the guy's penis- they always disappear it or do some kind of estimation so that its clear they didn't really look.
Thing is its like toes or fingers or ears...if you can manage to draw it like it is it adds a lot of credibility and authenticity to the drawing I think....

Afternoon delight

Wombat_delight from Lachlan Creagh on Vimeo.

Did rough walk then had to try moving it....
move a bit dodgy and feet sliding esp his left foot
....still why not

Dear Vincent...

Was reading some Van Gogh quotes today.....I think in my youth I'd watched documentaries about his letters to Theo etc...but you know being young you have this optimism and think your struggle won't be his.

but I think now after all this time spent trying to draw most of the quotes are uncanny....and I'm sure that every artist I know would relate as well
In a way I think his thoughts are more valuable than his paintings...
But I was thinking once again of all the opportunities I'd stuffed up, missing life's train and wondering "what now"/ a bit.
Nothing left Vincent but to try and find what you love and do it with love..and hopefully its done well.

Anyway...across the void of time and space I 'dips me lid'

On a completely unrelated note I have no idea why Russia is leading the hits on this forgotten corner of the internet.

When Alligators attack....

Alligator water attack from Lachlan Creagh on Vimeo.

(Tried to surreptitiously float it back to the start pos as it shakes whatever its chomped.)

Chomp

Alligator eat from Lachlan Creagh on Vimeo.

Alligator anims rendered out of 3ds max to see what needs fixing.
Eat anims not too bad...
Obviously on land alligators/crocodile don't really leap- they kind of charge- but for the sake of a game attack animation I try to make the implausible plausible.
Of course they do launch themselves from the water because their tail can drive them in the water....
but they don't really get 'air' on land.

The quick walk back /reset after the lunge attack thing the back right foot looks a bit quick/flappy,
I think side on it looked ok in 3dsmax but this view shows something is up/needs fixing....
also front right that brief hyperextend is a bit annoying-( might have to lift foot briefly or add shoulder anim to give reach.)....

Possibly also a bit quick ending really...but it's hard ...I always worry I need to keep them short and gamey more than slow and real so often find myself rushing to end them.

Model/bones by Rob, anim by me.

Haberdashery

Don't know why.... but some ideas for a quilt cover...thought I'd try out redbubble and see how one turns out?

Blinded by the light

Well made it to life drawing at Dust Temple- after nearly half a year.
Eyesight still a bit of a worry-
I've got reading glasses now which I rarely use, but they're not much use at life drawing....often the light on my paper is a problem....can't actually see where my pencil tip is because of the shadow
Anyway
As usual music was good, lots of nice fellow arty types...

I'd moved for this one above because I was behind her- all there was to see was hair and a pillow...
anyhow  I moved but where I'd moved to the lights were on my left so a black shadow from my hand/pencil was on the paper so I literally couldn't see where I was drawing...

Above was second week back (last week) and below are from a fortnight ago- 1st week back...
pretty dire but as I say first week back you get points for turning up.

Very difficult to get yourself to focus and pay close attention after months of not- very different to bumbling around while drawing in sketchbook
